Studying iPhone (Jailbreaking, Patching, Unlocking)

Join me as newbie in iPhone, we will try to figure it out and study some tutorials and later on, if I'll get some unit to unlock, jailbreak or anything will try to post it here! :)

Lets first try to understand the technical words we will encounter during the process:




iPhone2G- The first iPhone Apple released. It has an aluminum back and has an edge to connect to the internet.

iPhone3G- Is the second iPhone Apple released. It has a solid plastic back in black or white and features 3g to connect to the internet. This iPhone can be jailbroken and unlocked. The beta software has been released by the iPhone DEV team.
iPhone3GS- Is the third iPhone Apple released. It has a solid plastic back in black or white. and features to connect ot the internet. The device has a faster processor. more ram, better grapics, and video recording.

Jailbreaking- Is the process to gain access to the iPhone's root file system, allowing a third party application to run on a device. In general once you jailbreak you will have Cydia.app on your SpringBoard. You can use Cydia to install most every application you would need on your iPhone.

PwnageTool- Is a MAC only application that can Jailbreak your iPhone3g. It has the abilty to creat a custom firmware bundles which include selected third party applications and custom logos. You then use iTunes and this custom firmware bundle to update your iPhone. Using PwnageTool to jailbreak is slightly slower than the RedSnow but offers more customization options.

RedSn0w- Is an application which can jailbreak your iPhone3g quickly! You use iTunes to update to the latest iphone firmware then run RedSn0w to jailbreak (ie install Cydia). Using RedSn0w for jailbreak is slightly faster than the PwnToool, but offers less customization options.

UltraSn0w- This application is developed by the iPhone DEV-Team, is availble for installation via Cydia or Icy. You must be jailbroken on the 3.0 iPhone firmware and 4.26 baseband to utilize the application this is applicable on iPhone3G, while on iPhone 3GS process is jailbreak first by using RedSn0w, then unlock using UltraSn0w.

Now after understanding some technical terms, lets start jailbreaking/unlocking the present iPhone, Apple has released. The iPhone 3GS!

How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS on OS 3.0.x Using RedSn0w (Windows)

These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS on the 3.0.x iPhone firmware using RedSn0w for Windows

This tutorial can be used to jailbreak before applying the UltraSn0w unlock.

** If you would like to jailbreak on the 3.0.1 firmware you can follow these exact instructions; however, in Step Two use this 3.0.1 iPhone firmware file instead of the 3.0 one. Continue with the instructions as indicated.**

Step 1.

Create folder on your desktop called Pwnage.

3.0.0 (3GS): iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw Extract the RedSn0w executable from the zip file to the Pwnage folder.
